JULIA KAYLEE'S DAWN

March.

―

Here I am, writing the very fist blog post of April in the middle of
my midterm exam season, surrounded by those books & notes I gotta memorize to be in the credit-safety zone.

And yes, I've decided to do a post to tell the internet how I spent my March cause I didn't have enough time to share last month's footage.
I love this kind of post I've been doing since last summer.
It lets me to re-organize the stuffs I did & catch up with myself
when I'm lost in the deep deep ocean full of crazy days.

Yes, typical me.
Always starts with the food I had that I don't even remember the specific day and reason why I decided to have it.
This divine looking thing here is called
'Hop Chou A La Creme', originally from Osaka, Japan.

It was probably the best chou/cream puff I had in a while-
the bread itself was already on point, and the green tea cream!!
I didn't want it to be over as I ate it walking to the bus stop.

It was one of my favorite days I had on March.
After quitting my part time job at Dunkin Donuts, I finally got some time to take relaxing weekends. To celebrate this long-time-no-see
Saturday tranquility, I hung out with my college friend in my town.

We didn't do much, just what girls do when they meet outside;
endless chats, crazy giggles, walking around the streets with another huge pointless chats, brunch, and dessert.

Nevertheless, these were something I genuinely, truly missed!
It was such a carefree day to spend a weekend with a friend instead
of working in a small donut cubical all day long.

A pho we had to lighten up our perfect Saturday.
It's been my favorite pho place for few years, my mom approved.
It shall be one of my soul food, especially on rainy summer days
when I badly crave some nice warm soup & noddles.

Little college life update: I'm now doing better than the first terrible week!
I found the good parts of it, and trying to go with the flow.
I'm now used to pretty much everything even though
I still randomly get little anxiety which is manageable,
it doesn't affect my whole day at all!

Spring has come in Seoul.
I took these shots around the campus while having a small walk after lunch. Vivid yet subtle colors of spring were fading together and
I couldn't stop myself to take my phone out to leave them as pixels.
Still, what I saw with my eyes were better!

On another Saturday, my mom brought me and my sisters to the place where she found good waffles.
It's always right to have a good freshly made waffle, especially with all the girls in your family.
I'm so lucky to be in the most talkative family you've ever met,
and the people whom I can be myself whenever & wherever.

Here was the little summary of my March.
I'm really looking forward to share another experience I had last weekend, but the midterm exam is ahead of me.

Doing a weekly/monthly diary post now feels like a ritual for me to do
after going off on my blog.
See you after the crayzay midterm exam, wish me luck xx

Dear blog, long time no see!
I took unintentional break from you ever since I started living as a college freshman, but I've been missing you like crazy.

―

At the beginning of March, 2016, I officially became a college student.
Despite all the late night worries and pre-college life anxiety,
the new phase of my life I got to live in seemed quite cool.

I feel little bit embarrassed to talk about this, but it's part of my life
that already happened, and it's what I write about on my blog!

After spending  a week at college, I already became totally worn out.
It was the first time I got exhausted that fast,
and my mood for the whole week had crazy ups & downs.
Since I was busy making new friends at campus, all my energy
was gone as soon as I got home, and I did nothing, but go to bed.

I guess many facts I was facing got me so anxious.
First, I felt so much pressure to go out every single day for classes.
This may sound stupid; however, I often felt uneasy, especially whenever I started to worry about the next day's stuffs to get done even though I've finished what I needed to do.
Plus, I'm an ambivert with more introverty sides!

Second, I love spending times with my family, aka my bffs.
Well, I couldn't anymore! I wasn't available on the weekends as well,
cause I worked part-time @ Dunkin Donuts.
My mind craved for family chats & giggles we had all the time,
but my body was soooooo tired that I needed to give up on that.

Third, I started to feel broke.
Everyone may now know that food is one of the most important parts of my life (my mum contributed tons to this part) It's a worldwide well known fact that eating something delicious never lets anyone down.
Nevertheless, food got me so down.
Apparently, majority of the food I had was quite rubbish.
My lunch always had been something that tasted like fake version
of actual food straight out from the microwave.
At the same time, my money I 'd been saving started to evaporate fast.
And it made me feel sooooo broke.

Lastly, I couldn't spend time for "me".
I value having my personal to do what I want to do.
Reading books, blogging, going to museums/art exhibitions,
being with my family, watching films are great examples.
These things I do improved my self esteem & the way I treated my life.
I felt like I was losing these and traded them with college.

My first week of college went pretty terrible, but the worst part
was that I didn't want to tell about this to anyone.
I didn't want to worry my family and friends because I knew
that they were excited & proud of me.

And it got to the level that I couldn't take anymore.
Finally I talked to my parents & some of my friends how I've been feeling ever since college started.
I'm so lucky and blessed that every single one of them listened to me, gave real advice, and understood me.

I now feel great, I'm the same girl who loves to make pointless jokes,
eat chocolate, get obsessed with one song, and get talkative.

And here are the solutions I found to make my life & college life better:

1. Don't feel self conscious around friends.
2. Make sure to complete all the works and never delay them.
3. I quitted my part time job- decided to work on vacation and
focus on my studies during the semesters.
4. Bringing my own lunch to save money & feel full with good foods.
5. Avoid getting snacks between classes- snacks are huge invisible
money thieves that brings many people to blind sweet trap.
6. I'm now slowly learning how to manage my time and energy.

I think I'm now beginning to like my new phase of life: college.
I met some great friends here, and learned new things that can
help me through a lot of things.
It maybe a great chance to experience what I haven't done before,
and broaden my view and attitude toward my life ahead.

Your college life hacks, tips, advices or anything related are always welcomed here. I'm so ready for it!!

And I hope I can come back with another exciting post soon,
xx.

The Liebster Award

―

First of all, I would like to thank anythingandeverything for
nominating me to do this amazing relay going on among the bloggers.

I've been noticing this tag/challenge/award on many blogs, and wanted to do it
if anyone on the internet ever gave me a chance!
(I almost considered to nominate myself cause I was so eager like that)

Rules:

1. Tag the person who nominated you and thank them.

2. Answer the 11 questions you are given.

3. Nominate 11 new bloggers and tag them.

4. Give them 11 new questions to answer.

5. Notify your nominees.

So here's my liebster award post, I really hope we'll get to know more about each other!

1. Why did you start blogging?

I started this thing on last May, the time I was sooooo bored that I made my own
playground on the internet. I actually attempted to be a blogger since I was in middle school,
but it always led to fail because of my humongous laziness.
I wanted to share my thoughts, photos, and random stuffs with people from everywhere!

2. What is your favorite part of blogging and why?

Tbh, I wasn't fond of blogging till last October. I almost thought about getting it
rid of my life since I thought I wasn't able to manage it.
As I took time to share what I did & communicated with many bloggers,
I finally started to feel connection between me & my blog!
It contributed to my self esteem, and passion for my life,
these are one of my favorite parts of blogging.

3. What is one of your happiest memories?

I feel so blessed to have so many happiest experiences to choose!
For now, I'll choose the moment when I & family re-visited Japan last November.
Everything perfect happened in there- Ghibli Museum, adorable Tokyo streets,
Disney Sea, late night snacks, endless chats, and just being with my family!

4. What are some of your hobbies?

I love watching movies, listening to music, reading books (all of these
require the most comfy pairs of socks & pj sets I own).
Blogging, hanging out with my family/friends are also my favorite things.

5. If you had to live in the future and past,
which would it be and why?

I would definitely go with the past.
I mean, I'm gonna be in the future even though I want it or not,
but I won't be able to go back in time unless there'll be real time machine.

6. What are your favorite foods to snack on?

As a foodie, I always want to eat something I see.
For now, I love snacking on chocolate & fruits. I don't snack on these at the same time,
but the level of craving I get whenever I don't get to have them are soooooo high!
I used to snack on cookies and Nutella which gave me fat/carbs overload.

7. If you could become any type of supernatural,
what would it be and why?

I don't know why, but I always wanted to fly ever since I was a kid.
Maybe it's Peter Pan, Quidditch, fairy dust or whatever!
I would be able to travel world, go everywhere without spending money,
get to be closer to the sky, and a loooooot more.

8. What's your favorite caffeinated drink?

I've been loving latte & caramel macchiato for a while.
My recent favorite one became americano!
I have to admit that I didn't understand the reason why people drink that bitter liquid.
Well, I and my mom have it almost everyday... It offers generous help
to get me through the day especially I'm struggling so hard to keep my eyes on
from the terrible sleep attacks during the week.

9. What's your dream job?

I have quite many 'dream' jobs.
One of my unchangeable dream is to finally be a Hogwarts student.

10. What are your 3 favorite books?

Obviously, Harry Potter.
All the books by Roald Dahl
The Story Of Art by Ernst Gombrich

11. What are your favorite TV shows?

I don't watch a lot of TV shows. Instead, I prefer to watch little clips from everything.
I've been watching some clips from Ellen Show, Conan Show &
James Cordon's Late Late Show. They're just HILARIOUS.
I also binge watched last season of Teen Wolf last year.

These were random 11 facts of me!
I could do a lot more if I could, but gotta follow the rule :D

To continue this amazing blogger tag, I nominate...

The Nerdy Me

Darriyan Cateland

Stella from Looks & Travels

Big Dreamer Mei

Luxessed

The Colorful Thoughts

LookBrooke

Ella Pinto

A Glimpse Of Glam

Elizabeth Angelia

Ermal

My 11 questions:

1. Why did you start blogging?

2. How long have you been blogging?

3. What's your favorite fashion style?

4. What to you want to learn in the future?

5. If you could to live in any Disney/Pixar movies, what world do you want to live in?

6. What's your favorite/memorable childhood moment?

7. Where do you want to travel? Be Specific!

8. What's your favorite dessert and why?

9. Who's your favorite music artists right now?

10. If you could travel back in time to meet famous historical person,
who do you want to meet and why?

11. What's your dream home?

This was such a fun thing to write about &
I really hope y'all felt like chatting with me in person :-)

I eat

―

If someone would ask me to name the best chef in the world,
I would say that it's my mom right away without any hesitant.
She's been cooking for more than I ever know. I and the rest of my family know how
much she loves to cook and to see us getting excited with her dishes.

The best thing about my mom's table is that it's full of unexpected things.
From the tiniest details on the plate to salad dressing, she always tries something new,
and it never goes wrong!

I and my sisters sometimes jokingly tell her to open a restaurant on a very fancy
place to just let people to experience her food.
Well, if she'll really make it come true, we promised to work without any salary!!

I've been taking pictures of my mom's dinner tables whenever I wasn't in a hurry
to devour on that meal of the day.
Most of the shots would seem very new, strange or unfamiliar to you,
but I always wanted to share some of these tasty dishes of my mother.

So proud of my mom's passion & pride on her own food,
which were delitastedenough to turn all of us into picky foodies.

A good veggie meal even though it got beef going on.
I have no idea what to call this one-plate meal because this was my mom's creation.
All I can tell is that it was full of various seasonal vegetables like agaric mushrooms,
young garlic stalks, sweet pumpkin, and spring onion.

This happened on a day we call Gim-jang, an annual day for kimchi.
Gim-jang is one of traditional korean days (not holiday tho!)
when people get together to make new kimchi to eat for upcoming season/year.
The best part of this is that we get to taste the fresh kimchi with pork.
It's like an afterparty of the big event where all the people gather around & share food.

Another Korean dinner table.
The one on the left was when we came back from Tokyo last year.
We were craving something very korean & spicy,
and my mom cooked this amazing meal on that evening-
spicy fried pork with veggies, tofu, and steamed sweet cabbage.

The right one is another typical meal we had.
This one here may look really weird to many of you, but these taste sooooo nice!

Yes, we all know any time is the right time to have full barbecue for dinner.
(or even every meal!)
These shots always get me mouthwatering, so I secretly keep these two
on the corner of my phone gallery......
Even though this is like a meat overload, my mom never forgets to add
the same amount of greens as much as meat on the table.

When mom puts her unique creativity on the dinner table.

The left one is full of autumnal colors & tastes.
Warm brown rice, fried seasonal vegetables, savory soup,
and roasted eggplants with balsamic cream & red onions.

The plate on the right over there is full of sushi!
Yes, my mom even cooked sushi.
Smoked salmon sushi with pickled red onion & homemade yogurt dressing on top.

Lastly, this post obviously goes to my mom & her talented tastebuds.
And to all the mothers' custom dishes that only their family knows.

From the 3rd week of January to the 2nd week of February

―

There were many stuffs going on since the last time I shared my weekly diary.

First of all, I found my part time job @ Dunkin' Donuts.
Second, I made another bank account, this time with authentication certificate or something, which still sounds intimidating to me! (It was a must thing to get
cause I needed to have it to enter the government scholarship program)
Third, it was Seol-nal in Korea, a korean version of lunar new year celebration.
And a lot more going on...

So, here's another photo snippets kind of diary that I usually write once a month.

A very random shot of my left hand.
I don't remember the exact reason why this was on the corner of my phone.
Maybe I was proud of myself to finally put on some nail polish
even though it got messy after few days or
I was happy with that new golden minimal ring I got with my bestie!

This is one of my daily routine:
reading an article from Kinfolk magazine for at least three times a week.
I'm now running out of spare issues that I usually stock up on my bookshelf!
This is a quite urgent situation for me, and I'm definitely going out
this week just to get another amazing issue.

A heavy snowing day in Seoul.
There're many kinds of snowing day- a rainy snowing day, a snow-stormy snowing day,
snow you rarely see snowing day, horrible air pollution affected snowing day...

This snowing day was a very decent one, with no grayish puddles left on the streets.
It snowed so beautifully that I didn't mind those white flakes getting on my hair & coat.

This kind of weather is one of my favorite thing.
Pale sky, chilly air, and warm sweater!

Let's appreciate my sister here.
Sweeping off the snow with the broom that's taller than her.
She ended up pretending like a wizard flying on a broomstick.

In the evening, we all went to the Seoul square to see my little sisters ice skating.
It was freezing that none of us felt our feet anymore,
but I just looooove to see strangers ice skating!

The last Wednesday of every month is called 'A Day with Culture' in Korea.
Many places such as art museums, theaters, and concerts let people to enjoy
their exhibitions/shows with discounted offerings.

For that day, my sisters and I went to see Impressionists' masterpieces.
We couldn't stop chatting over and over again about all those colors & lights
from the legendary artists like Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Gauguin, etc.

I'm still in awe of Impressionism!

There was another dumpling making session before we celebrate Seol-nal.
Seol-nal is korean new year's day, which all koreans celebrate and wish
that year's luck to their families & friends.

Since it's one of the main holidays in Korea, people prepare a lot of things
for this time of the year. (Food, traditional costume called Hanbok, and a lot more)

We all gathered in the living room to pre-make our homemade dumplings
before the d-day comes. The best part of this was that we could taste test
some of the fresh dumplings right away!

This divine chocolate waffle.
I and my friend devoured all of this calories even though we had stomach full of sushi.

I'm obsessed with this movie!!!!!
All of you need to watch this (Our Times) if you read this.
This might be a cheesy movie to some people, but it totally got me
into feelings & made me want to visit Taiwan even more.

I can't tell the whole plot of this, but it's one of the movies that brings everyone
back to their high school life. (whether it was fabulous or not...)

It was finally Seol-nal.
For this year, we had straight 5 days off.
These days include all the cooking, cleaning, waking up early in the morning,
visiting & chatting with your family members, and blah blah

It may sounds quite tired & work overload. (and yes! it is)
However, getting together with all your family members to spend time with them,
watching everyone's favorite movies together, and being talkative up all night
with aunts & uncles are the best things to have.

For upcoming weeks, I'm gonna get even busier since I'll need to prepare myself
to start my college next month, complete all the documents & requirements
for scholarship, do part time job on the weekend,
and go on shopping to buy stuffs I planned to get for decades and centuries.

I can't wait to share all those bits on my next weekly diary!
What are your plans for this & upcoming weeks?
xx
