JULIA KAYLEE'S DAWN

―
Art of journaling the past:
I think that's why people keep their childhood photos in huge thick albums even though there may be some
(or more than anyone's expectations) cringey ones. It really does a magic by turning what you've thought as an ugly past into a cute laughable memories.

So why not write about the past adventures?
Writing about past adventures may seem something like chewing a tasteless bubble gum.
Yes, it may lack the real excitement from every moments and tiny little details of what we've experienced.
However, as time passes, I've found those adventures turning into a perfect remedy for my down days.

So I'm finally sharing  the last snippets from my trip to Taiwan day 3 - day 5.
(This is low-key time travelling to the time that I still can't get over)

―

Day 3

Day 3 was definitely the most adventurous, touristy day out of our five days.
We were scheduled to have a taxi tour, a type of tour guide program that people get to visit some amazing spots
outside Taipei on a taxi!

Our first stop was Yehliu Geopark.
This park has unique oddly shaped rocks & amazing ocean view that attracts tons of people around the world.

It wasn't a sunny day but we were lucky enough to explore the odd rocky lands without any showers.

Isn't it amazing how those rocks can be made just by wind & wave?!
Each of them looked super unique - mushroom shaped, chair shaped, and even queen's head shaped!

The cool ocean breeze and salty air outside the busy Taipei city made us more excited for the day.

Here's out second stop, Shifen.
I would call this place a train station town.
There're stores lined up right next to the railroad and people walking along the narrow platform.

These tiny little dots in the sky are the lanterns, the most popular activity of Shifen.

My family and I also had our own lanterns to be flown up in the Taiwanese sky.
Each color had its own meaning, so we carefully chose our lantern design & wrote messages to fly up in the sky.
It was such a great experience for us to remind ourselves how important our family means to each of us.

On our way to the third stop, Jinguashi, we laid over for this view.
This photo couldn't picture what my eyes had seen, but it was truly beautiful.
I remember colors of the ocean, the village by the mountain range and giant mountain behind everything.

This waterfall is called "Gold Waterfall".
The rocks looked kind of goldish yellow brown, that's my theory to its name.

After lunch break at Jinguashi, we saw a rainbow!
I think all of us were pretty exhausted due to fast-paced non stop car ride.
I also felt grumpy inside (guess everybody did), but no one ever complained or grumbled about it.
And seeing that rainbow really brought our energy back and all of us felt so grateful to see a rainbow during our trip.

We were even luckier to see this view after the rainbow.
I still get emotional when I go back to this moment in my mind.
The weather got clear and we eyewitnessed one of the most beautiful things in Taiwan.
All of us stayed there for minutes without any words, but seeing the clouds moving, blue sky and the ocean.
It was definitely the hightlight of our taxi tour!

Now that we were fully energized, we headed to our final stop, Jiufen.
A place known for its red light streets & tea houses (aka real life model of the spa from Ghibli's 'Spirited Away')

I have to admit that Jiufen wasn't the best tourist spot because there were way too many people
that we didn't think about doing anything, but escaping.
It was worth a visit, and worth a panic attack, too.

On our way out of Jiufen, the night view caught our eyes.
And out day 3, the most adventurous, tiring, memorable day was done.

Day 4

Now back to the city, back to public transportation.
We had a bus ride to see Lin's Family Mansion & Garden.

I felt like I traveled back in time to old Chinese palace.
Walking around the historical buildings and old trees was a cool experience for us to see Taiwanese culture & history.

Then my sister and I wrapped up our day with shopping (mostly food shopping tbh).

Going back home with shopping bags + night snacks can never be bothering despite their weights & my tiredness.

Day 5

Our last day was the most rainy day.
After checking out, carrying all the bags though pouring rain,
riding trains and stacking up all those baggage in the coin lockers, we could finally start our last day journey.
(Spot the famous 101 building here!)

We had our final meal at the very first Din Tai Fung of the world.

Then visited the last spot, the miniature museum.
It was hard to believe my eyes to see those detailed adorable pieces hand-crafted by people around the world.

And like that, our Taiwan adventure was officially done.
It was another family trip abroad, another valuable memory.

I'd like to say writing about past travel experience is somewhat therapeutic.
Scrolling back all the photos and recalling how I felt made me feel grateful of my experience.
I'm so thrilled to have more adventures and create more of my stories after that.

We all have our own ways to ease ourselves from busy tiring days.
From an hours-long lush pamper to a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's, these mere things take us to the quiet cozy nooks where there're no due dates, chores and burdens.

In my case, movie nights is one of the perfect nooks to be.
Whether I'm with my friends/family or even on my own, just thinking about it already makes me super happy.
(And I assume most of you do the same)
My movie nights are usually spent with my sisters, we like to surround ourselves
with all the pillows & cushions at home while munching on guilty night snacks.

About a couple of weeks ago, I was introduced to Pure Flix and we teamed up to share this brilliant idea about movie nights with you.
We worked together on our custom checklist so I can swim out of my deep sea called indecisiveness
when it comes to choosing among endless options!

I picked up 3 movies & 3 must-haves for my movie nights (and I definitely had hard time to choose only three picks) that has been and will always be my go-to ones no matter what.
Here I present my little movie nights essentials Ta-dah!

*A moment of appreciation*
Seeing my favorite movies & essentials listed on this literally felt like having a surprise bday gift.
Thanks Pure Flix, you've got me.

Movies

1. Harry Potter Series

No explanation needed.
Harry Potter marathon is actually my annual tradition
(no specific time, I just watch 'em all whenever I crave magician world).
My family and I really enjoy Harry Potter Series, so when we notice Harry Potter playing on TV
while aimlessly switching around the channels, everyone stops there, finish the movie, appreciate it.

2. My Neighbor Totoro

Another masterpiece.
Along with Harry Potter, this is one of the first movies of my life.
And I'll never get sick of it.
If you haven't watched this or any of Studio Ghibli's movie,
you should plan your Ghibli movie night and thank me later. You're welcome!

3. Up

This movie makes everyone smile at the end.
I still believe Carl & Russel are somewhere in this world and I'm sure you do, too!

Essentials

1. Cozy blankets & cushions

Unless it's middle of steaming hot humid summer night, cozy layers & soft cushions
are must-haves for perfect movie nights.
As soon as you find your perfect position (like being tucked in a warm wool blanket or lying on all the pillows),
you would be able to have the best relaxing movie night and you might fall asleep even before 'The End' pops up.

2. Homemade Popcorn

Snacking is one of the most crucial factors for everyone's movie nights.
I can list the history of my movie snacks, it's THAT important (at least for me).
But if I need to choose among all the existing possible movie snacks, I would go with popcorn aka the cherry on top.

I recommend you to make your own popcorn at home before your next movie night with these following reasons:
a. you just need heat & corn
b. you can customize it - salt, caramel, chocolate and so many more!
c. it's healthier than pizza (but pizza is always right, so I'll have both popcorn & pizza)

3. Warm drinks

Tea, coffee & hot chocolate for fall & winter.
Not only it loosens up your strained body from daily life,
it keeps you relaxed & comfortable throughout the whole film.

These days, I'm obsessed with warm lemon tea.
Please share what your summer movie night drink is so I can try one this summer!

If you're planning a movie night, give it a go with any movie/essential from this checklist!
To turn your movie night even better, you should try Pure Flix's family-friendly choices.
Since they're offering one-month trial for free,
this would be a great chance to find another film to add on your fav movie list!

I can't wait to know what your movie nights essentials are!
And please let me know if you have any movie/essential suggestions for me.

I'm so excited to finally share this on my blog.
From the 20th to 24th of February, I went on another family trip to Taiwan!
It was right before the start of my college sophomore year, and I was so ready for the trip
cause I knew that I'll never have time to go abroad after the semester starts.

We'd been waiting for this trip for almost a year.
It was only me and my sister who were supposed to visit Taiwan for vacay,
but it ended up as a big family trip since we all had enough flight mileage to fly for free!

We stayed in Taiwan for 4 nights & 5 days.
I honestly loved everything there, from places to food, it's just an amazing country to be!

Of course, I took the most number of pictures I've ever taken in my entire life
and this is why I had to separate my adventure post into at least three parts.
I hope y'all love my Taiwan adventure and enjoy my little stories in between.

※This post has tons of photos, you can scroll all of them down at anytime.

Day 1

Finally the D-day had come.
Despite my pre-travel excitement, I had a great sleep before going to the airport. (Thank you part-time job)
So with refreshed body & brain, we headed to Incheon National Airport, where our adventure officially began.

Into the plane!
As you see, it was super clear & sunny in Korea, so we hoped for Taiwan's weather to be the same.

It was such a pleasant flight.
I sometimes get airsick and never get to sleep properly
that lets me down so much during the trip due to piled up fatigue.
But this time, I didn't have a headache, ate my meal, took a nap & saw magical scenery in the cloud.

Then, we successfully arrived to our airbnb, located in the very city of Taipei, Ximending.
And this was the perfect one for the night view of Taipei.

After another nap till evening, we finally had enough energy to explore the city.
We headed out to our first night in Taiwan, filled with humid air,
smells of endless street food, motorcycles and street lights.

This is Longshan Temple, one of the most well-known temples of the country.
It was really crowded, but I loved seeing the classical Taiwanese architecture & how their people live in it.

This was the most 'glam' temple I've ever been.
Every building had its own superduper detailed sculptures, designs & decorations.
I would've felt that it was too much if this was a Korean traditional temple,
but after realizing that I was in Taiwanese temple, all of these numerous decors made sense.

We burned our incense & made wishes.

Look at these lanterns. I would never be able to see these much decorated lanterns in Korean temples
except at the lantern festival!
They were just casually hanging on the roof, I even saw a sandwich lantern there.

Then we went to the night market near the temple, tired some street food which were sooooooooo goooooood.
That was the time I started to fall in love with this country.

'I love their food = I love this country' is my life equation!

Me @ Taipei, Day 1.

Day 2

This view was the first thing I would see when I wake up in Taiwan.

The weather of the second day was the best one among all the other days.
And we were so lucky that we planned to visit somewhere that sunlight is the most important thing.

Little corners of my Taipei aribnb.

After gulping my first bobba tea in Taiwan (which was bomb),
we went to the Taiwan MRT train aka Taipei subway!

Let me tell you, Taiwan has the best subway system ever.
It's really easy & fast to go around the city, my sister & I kept saying that this deserves Nobel Prize.
We had zero difficulty to ride the right trains and transfer to another unlike we did in Tokyo few years ago.

Ta-dah!
We visited Tamsui, a beautiful place along the Tamsui river.

After lunch, we first went to Museum Fort San Domingo, the former British counselor's residence.

I loved every parts of it.
The mixture of old British & Taiwanese designs was really beautiful
& I loved wandering the building where sunlight rayed through the large glass windows.

Then for our coffee break, we went to the famous Tamsui Starbucks.
I remember watching the river & a man playing saxophone through the little gaps of the sun blind.

Sunset in Tamsui.
No reasons why we shouldn't spend a whole day there.

On our way back to the station, we stopped over this store to try this super famous Tamsui sponge cake.
I literally thought this could be my bed, it was soooooo fluffy and jiggly.
We ate it right away when it was still warm and soft.
It was the softest carb in my life, I wouldn't choke even if I accidentally swallowed the whole piece.

Then, we headed to one of the most popular night market in Taiwan, Shilin Market.
Since it was just few stations away from Tamsui,
it was super convenient and easy for us to stop over the market on our way home!

We bought varieties of Taiwanese souvenirs there,
I really recommend to visit there if you're planning to visit Taiwan someday!

I still can't handle this adorableness here.
Taiwan night markets have tons of vendors selling such cute stuffs ranging from little coin purses to makeup pouches! Who would be able to just pass them away if they're all hanging on the walls?
It seems like each of those are saying 'Please buy me...'

We came back home before the midnight, it was a long long day!
But before I took all my makeup off, we had to take few selfies with the night view of the city.

And this is how our first two days of Taiwan adventure went.
Despite our dry eyes due to contact lenses, swollen feet & just general travelling tiredness,
nobody got annoyed or complained about anything.
I'm so grateful to have such perfect travel buddies which is my whole fam!

Out remaining adventure was amazing as much as this, so keep your eyes on this series!
xx
