JULIA KAYLEE'S DAWN

I'm so nervous & excited to do my 1st giveaway ever!
Feeling like an amateur Santa Claus inside.

―

Few days ago, I received a very kind email from the company called 'Firmoo'.
To be honest, I had no idea what 'Firmoo' was & I'm sure many of you probably do, too.
(I almost thought it was a spam from the other side of the world)

I then read through that email and got panicked.
It was an email asking me if I was interested in doing a review/giveaway post.
Well, I'm never a professional blogger who is used to this kind of situation in life.
So I didn't know what to do with it.

I sent another email asking some questions before I confirm this little cooperation.
Sadly, Firmoo told me that I couldn't do a review post since I'm currently living
in South Korea; however, a giveaway was still available for me to do.

I thought it would be an excellent chance to give presents to
those amazing people who visit my teeny tiny blog!!
As one of the people who loves seeing someone happy with my gifts,
I couldn't just let this chance to fly away.

As a result, I'm running my first giveaway.
Before I start the actual giveaway stuffs, I'll just make sure that I'm not receiving
any money/products from Firmoo. I'm so glad to do this for YOU :D

―

About Firmoo

Firmoo is an online shop that sells glasses/sunglasses in great qualities.
They do a worldwide business to share their motto - Frugal Way.

I'll be now explaining & introducing about Firmoo in the first person view.
I was first impressed with its website (you know, the whole design of it?)

Later, I got even more impressed with their products!
Not only because of those trendy style they've got,
but also because of the price they were offering.

I've been wearing glasses for almost 10 years now, so I can consider myself as a
glasses expert. Well, Firmoo passed my 'evaluation test in the point of glass expert view'.

Prize will be offered in a voucher code which covers one frame,
1.50 index single vision lens and shipping fee. (you pay absolutely nothing!)

And there're 5 more winners who'll be receiving $10 vouchers each,
which can be used on all the glasses ($19-$39), except for the discounted ones.
(So it's basically like a $10 off coupon!)

My recommendations

I truly admit that this might look dorky & geeky at first.
But I consider this kind of glasses as the most retro-est ones among all the styles.
If not, you can just keep it in somewhere you wouldn't remember till Halloween,
and bring it out for your Harry Potter costume.

This is a similar pair to what I've been wearing for about 5 years.
It's one of the timeless design with little pop of colors.
The best essential to have specially during your finals!!!

These two pairs are mirrored lenses which were on trend since last summer.
I've been loving mirrored sunglasses because they add
more vivid colors to the looks that might seem boring.

The first one would look lovely to those who have warm skin undertones.
And the blue mirrored one would go perfect with any of you with cool skin undertones!

This one here may look unsure at the first sight.
I mean, ivory & pink?!
However, it caught my eyes as soon as I thought of upcoming spring and summer!
Just imagine wearing this lovely pair with your favorite dress and lipstick :)

Last but not least, we can never forget a pair of classic black sunglasses
that goes flawless with any outfits & in any seasons.

I thought I would feel guilty to further delay to write a post
about my new year's resolutions. It's still January though.

―

I'm sure that pretty much everyone around the world didn't get over
last Christmas & New Year's day yet; however, 31 days of the
first month of 2016 are already coming to the end, and I'm freaking out.

My new year resolutions were finished written on my notebook at the end
of the first week, January. Well, I know it's quite late to post about this on here,
but I just noticed today's date (Jan.26) which pressured me to finally do this post.

To be honest, I've never properly 'written down' my resolutions before.
All I did was to remind myself to be better
or to accomplish something as the years passed.
For this year, I somehow decided to start my own journal of 2016.
And the first thing I put down on the page was the new year's resolutions.

My 2016 journal.

At first, there was only this boring title with the smiley face.
Luckily, I had some leftover magazine papers to snip out my favorite bits
to turn the plain pastel blue page into this colorful patterned cover.

I'm going to try to share little parts of the journal as time passes.
Aside from documenting my 2016 life in words, I'm also filling this personal publication
with exhibition/movie tickets, random scribbles & pointless doodles.

Julia Kaylee's 2016 resolutions

1. Have quality college life
I'm gonna be a freshman in college this March, in Korea.
I know, this sounds extremely exciting and frightful at the same time!
(FMI, my major will be related to English.)
My main goals are to focus on studying whenever I must,
and to pay effort to myself.

2. Save money
I've been saving money for few years now, but personally, it's not a huge amount
for me to spend throughout the future. (And I used quite much on my college deposit
and Japan trip I had with my family last November)
I'm planning to do some part time jobs while teaching kids basic English.
Saved money will go to different parts of my life-
tuition, more travels, watching exhibitions, transfer to university, etc

3. Read more books
I used to be a giant bookworm when I was much younger than now.
I'm still obsessed with books, but I recently realized that I haven't read as much as before even though I always remind myself to read.
Books are one of the best ways to learn, to think, and to relax.
So why not dedicate more time to them?

4. Blogging
I'll be honest here, I almost considered to get rid of this blog last year.
I was tooooo busy with all the tests, plans & documents,
which kept me a humongous distance away from blogging.
It's quite recent that I found blogging really attractive.
No matter the amounts of view or comments, I started to value my own place
on the internet, and the time I spent on here.

I'll try to keep on loving it as much as I do now.
(Even though I'll be super busier than ever after the classes start.)

5. Take more pictures.

6. Finding new artists & musicians.

For now, these are my resolutions to keep reminding myself throughout the year.
Some of these may fail or succeed; nevertheless, I'm not trying to bring them
to perfection. I just thought that setting 2016 resolutions would motivate
me to live more productive and contented life!

To wrap this post, let me ask for your help :)
Are there any tips for new college life? Any advice would be so lovely to read!

Did you set your little/huge goals to give a kick this year?
What are they?

xx

I bake

―

On my latest post, I mentioned about my best friend visiting me from the Philippines.
Thankfully, she asked what she could buy for me in the Philippines, and I said,
"Dried coconuts will do".

Well, it seems quite boring and too simple to just ask for dried coconuts.
However, they are quite pricey here in Korea since they're tropical fruit.
So when she visited me last week, she brought me two bags of dried coconuts,
and I started to wonder what to create out of these two yummy bags of treats.

After the little brain storming, I decided to make Chocolate Coconut Muffins.
aka C&C Muffins.

I've baked many chocolatey things, but never ever tried anything with coconuts in it.
And this was the time to try something new after having Christmas sugar cookie comma!

I'll share the recipe & the whole process here so you can also enjoy some
rich gooey chocolate muffins with some coconuts in it.

C&C Muffins
Time: 30 min - 50 min
Serving: 10-12 muffins
Difficulty: Medium
Oven: 160-170 ºC (preheat the oven!)

Step 1.
Let's see what we'll need to bring out to get started.

You'll need:
40 g dried coconut, sliced
70 - 90 g of melted chocolate
100 g butter
175 g self raising flour (medium flour)
1 egg
20 g cocoa powder
4 g baking powder
240 g milk
50 g sugar
pinch of salt

※ Make sure to bring butter, milk, and egg to the room temperature.
You can also pre-mix the dry ingredients. (flour, cocoa powder, baking powder)

Step 2.
Mix creamy butter and sugar with a pinch of salt.
Keep mixing till you can hardly hear sugar cracking.

Step 3.
Add an egg to the butter & sugar mixture.

Step 4.
Now, bring your melted chocolate next to the bowl.
Add 1-2 tablespoons of melted chocolate as you beat the mixture.
Don't put it all at once, chocolate might be separated from the mixture.

Step 5.
You can now combine dry mixture.
The muffin dough would be thick as you mix, but don't worry.
Pour the milk you measured and mix it further.
Lastly, add the sliced coconuts!
※ Leave 1/4 of the coconuts as sprinkles.

Step 6.
Scoop in the dough to your muffin wrappers, lined up on your muffin tin!
Sprinkle the sliced coconuts you left on the Step 5.

Step 7.
Put them in the preheated oven at 160-170 ºC, for 20 minutes.
You can use skewers to check if they're done.
I casually roamed around the whole house waiting for the oven's ding! sound.

Step 8.
After 20 min, C&C Muffins are finally out!
Repeat the same process for the rest of the muffin dough.
Last but not least, enjoy them with your favorite hot drinks :)

After my family's taste test, they all approved C&C Muffins.
It was a successful baking day as I tried new recipe. Plus, it turned out really delicious!

I'm actually munching on the last C&C Muffin as I type this sentence.
I also have another bag of dried coconuts.
And definitely looking forward to turn it into another treats soon.

So, this was my another 'I bake' post, hope it made you hungry enough to try baking it!
See you soon xx

From the 1st Monday to the 2nd Monday of 2016

―

Even though Mondays make everyone to feel tired, bored, and sleepy
(in my case, I feel hopeless and tragic), the very first Monday
and the second one of 2016 weren't too bad to start for me.

It was because my best friend visited me for a week to spend some times together!
We've been besties for about 6 years now.
Ever since we became friends in the Philippines, where I had my middle school life,
we kept on contacts no matter where we were.
She's basically like my sister now.

Aside from late night chats, pointless jokes, reading books for hours without
going out cause it's cold, and girls' pamper sessions,
we did many other things that were worthy to take photos.

And I'm going to share the footage of what I and my bff did for a week.
(WARNING: most them are food, food, food, and food.)

We chatted and chatted over plenty of stuffs while munching on these
tasty dishes. Aside from carbonara and fried chicken, we ate some ice cream,
pizza, chips, and other snacks along with drinks!
I was so full by the end of the day, but wasn't guilty somehow.

On the next day, I and all the girls including my sisters, went to the art exhibition.
Among all the exhibitions, we chose the one called 'From Picasso To Francis Bacon'.
It was about the modern art & artists who started the new art movements.
I was so thrilled to finally see Toulouse Lautrec's works.
Even though we weren't allowed to take photos inside, I would remember some
amazing and wonderful works of those modern artists.

Perks of having foodie friends like you.
And another perks when your bff's bff is your bff.

My squad is actually made of 4 girls, including me.
I and other two were total strangers, but we became besties
simply becuase their besties were my besties!!!

By the way, that pizzas were amazing.
All three different kinds each of us ordered were really fresh and delicious.
As a pizza person, I'm now craving this as I write about it.

Of course, we needed to have sugary desserts.
I brought them to the churros place where I go often with my family.
I mean, who doesn't like warm crispy cinnamon goodness with chocolate?

On Friday, we decided to stay at home with family.
As an ambivert, who loves to spend some times outside, I felt like I then needed
to take time to relax at home with some books and warm cozy socks.

In the afternoon, My mom brought all of us to the local market to shop groceries.
When we came back, we decided to make our own korean dumplings!
None of us were pro at this, but it brought so much childhood memories and
laughter as we covered our hands with the flour.

We ate all of the dumplings right away because we were starving after
all those dumpling-making works and chats.
My mom cooked them in two ways- steaming & frying.
Both types of the dumplings were sooooo tasty that we kept on saying
that we should literally sell them out to the people.

On the weekend, we headed out to just walk around and to have some more chats.
Well, we all know that chatting for a week is never enough for teen girls.

This instagram-worthy looking dessert here is called 'Bingsoo' in Korea.
It is a chocolate version of it, shaved ice covered with everything chocolatey
and topped with notorious whipped cream. (aka, calories overload)

I've had such a great week with my best friends.
Since we all leave really far from each other, it was so lovely to hang out with them.
This kind of friendship taught me to overcome the distance
and strengthen the trust on each other.
So thankful to have my three girls who are now like actual sisters!

Hope you will have the best quality time with your best friends this year,
Bye!
